New Year, New Challenges

I'd like to take a moment to tell everyone how thankful I am for the feedback and shares I received on the video I posted January 11th. It was originally going to live only on my Instagram, but when I showed my brother, he was adamant about it being posted to Facebook ass well.

In 2017, I've challenged myself to learn all that I could about drums in the amount of time I could before Anchoria started playing shows. I also set out to further my knowledge of producing music. Throughout the year, I found myself listening to softer music than I have in the past. The musical tastes of my close friends had started to make their roots into my influences and interests.

I decided to do a cover of "Heavy Dungeon Echo" by Mansions, one of my favorite bands, as a way to challenge myself vocally. The last few months I've started to post snippets of other covers to my Instagram to boost the confidence in myself knowing that my voice was public and that that was alright. For years, that was an insecurity of mine. It still is, but producing music is about knowing what you have to work with. I'm in no way a vocalist, but I find it’s important to understand what a vocalist is doing while working with them during the recording process. I've definitely gained more respect for that piece of the puzzle. I decided I was going to try to make the best of it and have some fun with that video.

With that said, my goals for 2018 are to find different perspectives in music, to challenge myself to understand more behind theory. I also feel responsible as a multi-instrumentalist to not only better yourself with the instruments you do know, but to also learn new ones. I'd like to learn a new instrument every year if I can. I'll keep it to myself what instrument that will be this year for now though.

I believe that music is about community and helping each other out in ways that benefit the community as a whole and not just one's self. As I offered in post the morning, if any of my friends are wanting to record something similar to what I've done, please let me know. I often get bored and want more to work with production wise to gain more experience. I follow more local music than anything and I know the community can be slow breathing at times but very much alive still. I’d like to do what I can to maintain its breathing, but that takes more than just myself doing so.

I'd like to say thanks again to everyone for the positive feedback. It means a bunch and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Hope everyone has an awesome 2018. Cheers!
